Life gives us our challenges. But life can still be good, and we can make it.
Lyrics
What We’re Living Through
Words and Music by Erik Swerrie
Twister blew right through my heart, without warning and no answer,
When daddy found out his little cough, turned out to be cancer,
He grabbed me and my brother like a big armful of hay,
Threw us in the truck with mom, and drove out to the lake
We spent that whole afternoon and six more weeks together,
Memorizing each laugh and look so they could last for ever,
Didn’t know where the road would go, but daddy wouldn’t miss the ride,
The day he found his way and lost the fight I realized
There’s no road map, no finish line, no do overs, extra life,
And in the end no one can win or lose,
All you can is all you need to do, the good Lord will watch over you,
And we learn what we’re living for, by What We’re Living Through
Years line up like a picket fence, and our kids are growing so fast,
Brought the news back home to you again, can’t find work that will last,
The TV says recession, and it’s looking more like war,
But we are each other’s blessing, ‘cause we know what life is for
There’s no road map, no finish line, no do overs, extra life,
And in the end no one can win or lose,
All you can is all you need to do, the good Lord will watch over you,
And we learn what we’re living for, by What We’re Living Through
I’m gonna breathe each breath every day,
Open each and every door,
In the end it’s not the end that matters anyway,
But what we find that’s worth living for
Stopped to see that old gravestone that reminds me where I start,
With daddy’s words engraved forever, like on my heart,
“Do what you do,” he said, “And always do what’s right,”
“Don’t look forward and don’t look back, look life right in the eye”
‘Cause there’s no road map, no finish line, no do overs, extra life,
And in the end no one will win or lose,
All you can is all you need to do, the good Lord watches me and you,
And we learn what we’re living for, by What We’re Living Through,
Yes we learn what we’re living for, by What We’re Living Through
